FRENCH DIP Jun 30 Written By Leena Ahmed https://www.youtube.com/shorts/3cyKAlnOGGE PrintFRENCH DIPYield 4Prep time15 MinCook time2 HourTotal time2 H & 15 MIngredients 1-2 lb beef chuck steakSeasoning blend:1 tsp salt1 tsp black pepper½ tsp garlic powder½ tsp paprika¼ tsp cayenne pepper¼ tsp dried thymeBeef jus:1 white onion, cut into chunks3 cloves garlic, peeled2 sprigs rosemary3 sprigs of thymeHandful of parsley with stems2 cups beef stockFor the sandwich:1 yellow onion, thinly sliced1 baguette4-6 slices cheddar or swiss cheese¼ cup mayonnaise1 Tbsp stone ground mustard1 tsp worcestershire sauce1 Tbsp ground horseradishInstructionsIn a small bowl combine all spices. Lightly spray the steak with oil so the spices will stick. Season the beef steak all over with the spice blend and set aside.Cook the beef: Heat a large, high sided pan or dutch oven over high heat, add a little oil to the pan and sear the steak on both sides for 4-5 minutes till deeply browned. Add the onion, garlic, and beef stock to the pan with the steak. Bring the liquid to a boil and add in the rosemary, thyme and parsley. Cover the pot and cook on low heat or in a 350F oven for 2 hours, until the beef shreds apart with a fork.While the beef cooks, stir together the mayonnaise, mustard, worcestershire and horseradish. Set aside in the fridge until ready to assemble the sandwich. Add the thinly sliced onion to a pan with a little oil and a sprinkle of salt. Cook on medium low, stirring occasionally, until golden and caramelized, about 20 minutes.Remove the beef to a separate dish and flake it apart. Strain the cooking liquid and discard the solids. Reserve the liquid to dip the sandwich into.To assemble the sandwich: slice the baguette lengthwise and slather on a good amount of sauce onto both sides of the baguette. Place the slices of cheese on both sides, then broil on high until the cheese is melted and bubbling. Top with a heaping pile of beef and caramelized onions.
